Best Laid Plans

After surrendering to her fate with Avery, Kylie gained a smidge of satisfaction knowing that while she was at the hospital, Rylan would be "discovering" the journal. He'd been texting Selia about the debacle with the accident, and she gave her consent for him to return to the funeral home to canvas it for clues that might aid in the investigation of locating Vance and Paul.

Of course, he would be documenting as much of the journal as he could during his accidental discovery. The main issue Rylan would face was getting there before Connor. The next issue would be to prevent a war between the wolves.

For Kylie, the situation with Aziel was out of her control, which frustrated her more than the idea of facing Avery.

The day's events left her drained. "I'm done for the night. I'm getting my shower. You can use the bathroom down here. Fresh towels are in the linen closet. You know your way around. Goodnight."

"Night. See you in the morning." He'd been messaging his partner about the ledger and was still texting.

Kylie trudged upstairs to get her shower. She cranked the hot water until the mirror steamed up. She had a walk-in shower, one of the few upgrades to her old house that she sprang for shortly after purchasing the tiny row home. It was worth every penny she'd paid after days like today. She tossed her clothes in the hamper and stood directly under the shower head. The water cascaded over her shoulders, easing the tension. She lathered her body with honeysuckle-scented soap until bubbles ran in rivulets over the contours of her breasts and belly. She closed her eyes and relaxed while rinsing away the soap.

"I could help with that," Rylan said.

She startled at the sound of his voice. She'd been so engrossed that she didn't hear him enter. She'd planned on ignoring his presence in her house, but the way he gazed at her now, waiting for her to respond, was hard to ignore. Even more challenging was what she wanted to do with him. Instead of reprimanding him for giving her a fright, she moved over and gave him room to join her in the shower.

He stripped and stepped beneath the spray of water. His eyes grew dark with desire. "You have no idea how long I've waited since my return for this invitation."

She spread her palm on his chest, teasing the dark curls with the tips of her fingers. "I hope I won't live to regret this, but either way, I want you more than I ever have before."

Their hunger drove them into a lustful frenzy while the water sluiced over their bodies. She knelt to taste him. He groaned a deep throaty moan of pleasure. He picked her up, holding her against the tiled wall, where he fondled her until she was slick with heat. Kylie took advantage of how he held her and wrapped her legs around his waist.

They teased one another with playful nips. He slid into her.
